One day a few years back I got together with some of my favourite musicians at Zen Studios in Sydney to make a little recording, have a laugh and to honour my friend Edouard Bronson. Not much was discussed. There’s so much music we know together from jazz standards, Jewish songs, Eastern European gypsy tunes, pop songs….We felt like swinging on this day, so we just played one take of anything we could think of and this album is the result.
These musicians are all exceptional.
The man this album is named after is Eddie Bronson. He plays the accordion and sax. Originally from Russia, Eddie has lived and played all around the world. Eddie has won awards with various bands he works with. He sets the room alight wherever he plays. I know the guys on this recording hold him in the highest regard and we all learn a tremendous amount every time we play with him.
Daniel Weltlinger is the violinist. He’s currently based in Berlin and has a growing reputation internationally.
John Maddox is on the acoustic bass. An incredible technician and improvisor.
Tim Bradley is the drummer. A master…
I’m on guitar. I'm using my Piers Crocker 'Selmer style Django guitar' with a stimer pickup.
I’ve sat on these mixes for quite some time. We are all so scattered around the globe that it is rare we get together.
It's a snapshot of 5 men at their top of their game trying to make deep sensitive music trying not to laugh while we do.
As Eddie himself says 'let us learn and discover the music together'. I hope you will and i hope you enjoy.
Please look up these musicians. If they are playing anywhere near you, make the effort to go see them. You won’t be disappointed….
